The Ten Commandments states, “You shall have no other god before Me.” The prominence of this command highlights the fact that the people of Israel wanted to- and even sometimes did- worship other gods. In these sessions we will consider the questions: who were these other gods? Why were they compelling? What sorts of rhetoric does the Bible employ to argue against worshiping them?
Class will take place at Lincoln Square Synagogue, 180 Amsterdam Avenue, between 68th and 69th Streets.
