“Who Heals the Brokenhearted and Binds up their Wounds” – Harofei lishvurei lev umechabeish le’atzvotam
The workshop is designed to help mental health professionals explore Jewish perspectives on issues they likely encounter in their day-to-day work. Focusing during each meeting on a different topic of importance to mental health and wellbeing, participants will bring their own clinical and personal perspectives into conversation with a range of classical and modern Jewish texts. Topics will include grief, the wounded healer, aspects of listening, and more. The beit midrash will include small-group or paired (chavruta) text study as well as group discussion.
This season of Drisha’s beit midrash for mental health professionals and chaplains is open to practitioners at all levels of clinical and professional experience. Clergy with a background in pastoral work are invited to participate as well.

The Ten Commandments states, “You shall have no other god before Me.” The prominence of this command highlights the fact that the people of Israel wanted to- and even sometimes did- worship other gods. In these sessions we will consider the questions: who were these other gods? Why were they compelling? What sorts of rhetoric does the Bible employ to argue against worshiping them?
Class will take place at Lincoln Square Synagogue, 180 Amsterdam Avenue, between 68th and 69th Streets.
